This week Teign were away to national league relegates Firebrands who sit mid table after
some mixed results. Although, Teign put up a good fight and a positive performance they
came away with no reward as the game finished 3-1 to the Bristol side.
Firebrands started strong and were compact and disciplined in midfield passing well into
space and creating chances early on but Gill Dyer, Jane Rochelle, Shannon Keating and
Vikki Taylor worked hard in Teign defence to make sure their chances came to nothing.
Firebrand’s hard work was eventually rewarded with a goal as miscommunication in the
Teign defence saw a player run into the circle and slip the ball past advancing keeper Hazel
Tranchant. 1-0 to Firebrands.
Teign responded almost immediately with a great aerial ball from Ellie Brooks that found her
mother Jackie Brooks in the corner of the pitch, she drove the ball into the circle and as she
began to lose her balance managed to put a reverse pass across the face of the goal which
Laura Tranchant pounced on to put in the back of the net! 1-1, Teign were unlucky not to get
a second shortly after as another ball from Ellie found Katie Rochelle and Laura with just the
keeper to beat but Laura just managed to put the ball wide into the side netting. 1-1 at half
The second half saw more stoic defending from Teign and some great counter attacking
hockey but unfortunately after a controversial penalty stroke decision putting Firebrands in
the lead, Teign became unsettled and Firebrand’s experience got the better of them to finish
with a 3-1 win.
Other results did not go Teign’s way this week which sees them back down at the bottom of
the table but with a game in hand on the rest.
Next week will see them in their final home game of the first half of the season against
Bristol University 12:00 start.
